“A story: A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he’s finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son’s diaper; his hands remember the rifle.”
Anthony Swofford - Jarhead
A former British soldier turned technologist, I now work for Rubrik as an SE in EMEA. We make backup, recovery, and data management solutions for the modern datacentre. Traditionally that’s a very unsexy topic, but we make it sexy, and more importantly not suck.
I’ve spent 10 years in IT, not including a 5 year “tactical pause” in the British Army - where, in the famous words of Private Joker, I got to travel the world, meet interesting and stimulating people from ancient cultures, and then kill them.
I’ve done most gigs in the industry, from Dev roles back in the day, to consultancy, through to pre-sales and solution architecture. Today my primary expertise revolves around Cloud, automation/orchestration, and DevOps.
In the past I’ve been on both the Cisco Champion (2015-2017) and NetApp A-Team (2014-2017) advocacy programs, and am currently a member of the vExpert and vExpert Cloud programs.
Outside of work I like functional fitness (particularly the SOFlete programming and CrossFit), Krav Maga, mountain biking, and punk rock music. Come and find me at an event if you feel so inclined, I get around a bit. Mine’s a Red Stripe.
Standard disclaimer around opinions being mine and not those of my employer, etc, etc…
